SKYLENCE x Go Sister!

Go, Sister! — An Empowerment Initiative For Women and Girls

In the remote mountains of Liangshan (Cold Mountain) in Sichuan Province, countless girls from Yi Ethnic Minority Group still face the weight of tradition and poverty. Families often choose to keep sons in school while daughters are left behind — their dreams set aside too soon. Gill, the founder of Go, Sister!, once witnessed this fate within his own family: his younger sister was forced to give up her education so that her elder brother could remain in school. It is her story that became the seed of this project — a mission to give girls back their right to learn.

This summer, the SKYLENCE team journeyed deep into the mountains of Liangshan. We sat in the homes of local Yi families, listened to the stories of young girls, and witnessed first-hand the challenges they face when poverty and tradition place sons before daughters in education. Many of these girls dream of learning, yet are asked to step aside so their brothers can study.

From these encounters grew a mission — Go, Sister! A project born from both pain and hope, founded by Gill to ensure that no girl is denied the classroom because of circumstance. Today, SKYLENCE proudly partners with this mission, carrying it forward so that more voices can be heard and more futures can be reclaimed.

Through this initiative, every garment, every piece sold by SKYLENCE becomes more than fashion — it becomes a step towards change. A portion of our proceeds directly supports Liangshan Yi girls in continuing their studies, keeping them in school, giving them the power to shape their own futures.

As Skylence herself shares: “I am half Sichuanese — my mother is from Sichuan. By joining this mission, I feel I am not only contributing as a designer, but also giving something back to my homeland. It means so much to bring something positive and empowering to the place where part of my story began — turning fashion into a bridge of hope and empowerment.''

Our photographs from Liangshan tell the story of courage, resilience, and quiet determination. They remind us that fashion is not only about beauty and luxury — it is about creating change.

At SKYLENCE, we believe love is the beginning of all things — and empowering women is the path to transformation. When one girl rises, an entire community rises with her. We can make sure every sister has the chance not only to attend school, but to embrace her voice, her choices, and her destiny.

Go, Sister! Because every girl deserves the right to learn, to dream, and to choose her destiny.
